NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY:THE MINISTRY OF DEFENSE IMPLICATED

On high instructions from the Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Paul Biya, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in Charge of Defence, Beti Assomo Joseph alongside his counterpart the Minister of Economy Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey officially installed members of the working group in charge of the development of military-industrial capacities of the Defence Forces at the Hall of acts in the Ministry of Defence on Wednesday 06, 2022.

The working group which is headed by the Defence Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Rene Claude Meka under the economic program of the 2030 national development strategy (NDS30), has as objective to accompany the vision of the Head of State as the Ministry of Defence happens to be one of the major partners of development. This therefore implies that, the members will be drilled in a workshop by experts from the Ministry of Economy Planning and Regional Development on the national development strategy 2020-2030 which is geared at promoting the country’s domestic and international economy, social and environmental commitments likewise the enhancement of the strategic outlines that will orientate the development efforts to achieve the objectives set out in vision 2035.

In this vein, the Minister of Economic Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey emphasized that the workshop will permit the participants drawn from different headquarters and specialized services in the Ministry of Defence to go memory lane 10 years, in order to evaluate the results achieved so far which to him are satisfactory because the economy has remained resilient despite the health crisis (COVID19) and other external shocks.

On his part, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, reiterated that, it is an opportunity for our Defence Forces to prove their capabilities and involvement in the economic development of Cameroon.

It should be noted that, this workshop is based on three fundamental orientations namely: a mix between import and export promotion based on the comparative advantages of the national economy, a strategic and pragmatic state that sets up facilities for the emergence of the private sector and an articulation between indicative and imperative planning.
