The newly constructed branch of Cameroon Telecommunications, CAMTEL in Ngaoundal Subdivision, Djerem Division in the Adamawa region has gone operational.
The branch was officially unveiled and inaugurated following a series of activities organised by CAMTEL from 8-12 September 2020. Top among the activities to accompany the launch was sensitisation carried out by mobile caravans across the town in local languages to give the locals an idea of the services offered by company.
The construction of the new branch,CAMTEL officials revealed is in response to appeals from the population for quality telecom services and in keeping with government’s digital transformation vision.
The commitment to get the branch constructed and rendered operation was taken by CAMTEL hierarchy few months back with technical studies whose positive result permitted the General Manager, Judith Yah Sunday espe Achidi to order immediate commencement of work.
The crack team of technicians then succeeded to erect a 55 metre tall tower to host the network station which comprises CDMA and LTE CAMTEL services. In early April, work on the tower was completed and test conducted to ensure all went well. The new branch, officials say will henceforth permit locals to enjoy CAMTEL services – calls, internet among others unperturbed.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, AhadjiMohamadouSaoudi, the President of Djerem Development Association who doubles as CAMTEL’s Board Chair and Secretary General at the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications on behalf of the population and elite expressed gratitude to CAMTEL management for listening to the cry of the people.
Saoudi revealed the installation of branch falls within President Biya’s vision to develop the telecom infrastructure sector and ensure realisation Cameroon’s digital transformation vision carefully being piloted by the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications and executed by CAMTEL.
The Board Chairman on behalf of CAMTEL’s Board of Directors expressed satisfaction to work done by management, adding that the GM carefully executes her task in strict respect of recommendations made by the Board. He added that the new branch will come to reinforce the national backbone, optic fibre and help boost the complete coverage of the larger part of the region.
Adamawa regional coordinator of CAMTEL services on his part promised to ensure maintenance of the new branch to strictly follow-up unfolding of activities in the area in compliance with the vision of the General Manager.
Installing which was graced by the massive presence of a cross section of the elite, traditional rulers, religious and administrative authorise and the population has been described by many as strategic.
This according to them is because Ngaoundal is a road junction town to all travellers criss-crossing the division with undisputed economic potentials especially with the discovery and imminent exploitation of mineral deposits in the area.
